In October 2011 we responded to an emergency situation at Carnell Elementary. Two students were hit by vehicles in the same week, and we were asked to present a school-wide assembly on pedestrian safety. After running the assemblies, we undertook to develop an Emergency Action Plan which schools can use to address pedestrian crashes within their student population. This plan also serves our mission to build schools’ capacity to offer pedestrian and bicycling safety and encouragement instruction.
Schools can now implement the classroom or assembly plans, or both, depending on their resources and circumstances.
