Now that my child has learned safe bicycling practices, where can we ride?
Philadelphia has many exciting and different options for riding; we have trails and bike lanes, all of which are fun and easy to ride on regularly! The Schuylkill River Trail (SRT), Delaware Valley’s largest multi-use trail, follows along the Schuylkill River up to Valley Forge and hopefully soon it will stretch even farther! The great thing about the SRT is how it connects to a lot of other trails in the area. It connects to the Perkiomen Trail, the Valley Forge Trail Network, PA Bicycle Route S, Audubon Loop Trail, Norristown State Farm Park Route A/B, the Wissahickon Bikeway, East Coast Greenway, and soon the Cobb’s Creek Trail! Just think how many places you and your child can explore on bike from the SRT!
If you are interested in participating in organized rides with your child, there are many kid friendly rides that happen in the Delaware Valley! The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia annually hosts Bike Philly, which closes down streets in Center City Philadelphia and Fairmount Park to car traffic. This ride is great for kids to participate in because the ride is supported, which means that if your child’s bike has any sort of mechanical issue, mechanics are stationed along the way to help you get back in the ride!
The Philadelphia area has many bike clubs, which organize rides on a regular basis that you and your child can check out! For a list of the bike clubs in your area, please click here. Also, check out the BCGP Events Calendar for a complete listing of upcoming rides in the area! For the BCGP Events Calendar, please click here. Family Rides
